FORMER PSHS CALABARZON OFFICIAL WINS CHEMISTRY AWARD
A FORMER official of the Philippine Science High School System Calabarzon campus was the recipient of the 2023 Philippine Federation of Chemistry Societies-Bihis-Maalala Basics Achievement Award for Secondary Education.
Dr. Jose Andaya served as campus director of PSHS-CALABARZON campus from 2015-2023.
He was a chemistry teacher at the PSHS-Main Campus for 25 years.
He was also a resource person and published research and books about chemistry.
“Because of his passion to give Filipino students the opportunity to participate in the International Chemistry Olympiad, he took the initiative to observe the IChO in 2015 and 2016 and became the country coordinator of the Philippine Team,” PSHS said.
“In collaboration with the Philippine Association of Chemistry Teachers, the Philippine Federation of Chemistry Societies, and the PSHS System, he made the participation of Filipino students in IChO possible in 2017. Since then, the Philippines has won numerous medals in IChO,” it added.
Andaya studied at the Centro Escolar University and finished his Teacher Training Program on Chemistry Education as a Monbushogakusho Scholar at the Shizuoka University of Japan.
He also has an MS in Chemistry, Masters in Public Management and Doctor of Technology degrees from Centro Escolar University, Ateneo de Manila University and Technological University of the Philippines, respectively.
