PROFESSORS and alumni of the De La Salle University bagged awards handed out by the National Academy Science and Technology this year.

The NAST aims to recognize outstanding achievements in science and technology as well as provide meaningful incentives to those engaged in scientific and technological researches.

Dr. Arnel Beltran and Dr. John Frederick Tapia were named Outstanding Scientists in the field of Environmental Engineering and Chemical Engineering, respectively.

The OYS awards are given to young Filipino scientists below the age of 40 who made significant contributions to science and technology.

Meanwhile, the study of Aileen Shi (Assistant Professorial Lecturer), Michelle Kris Ong Yiu (BS Applied Economics major in Financial Economics and BS Management in Financial), Louie Angelo Ricafrente (BS Applied Economics major in Financial Economics), and Prof. Angelo Unite (University Fellow) was recognized for their outstanding paper award.

The study was entitled ‘Women on Boards of Philippine Publicly Traded Firms: Does Gender Diversity Affect Corporate Risk-Taking Behavior?’

It was co-authored by Prof. Michael Sullivan of University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Moreover, Dr. Ron Bridget Vilog (Department of International Studies) and Dr. Carlos Piocos III (Department of Literature) got the same award for their study titled ‘Community of Care Amid Pandemic Inequality: The Case of Filipino Migrant Domestic Workers in the UK, Italy, and Hong Kong’.

The OSP Awards is given annually for papers published in Thompson Reuters or SCOPUS listed journals in the Philippines within five years preceding the award.

Likewise, Prof. Aileen Orbecido of the Department of Chemical Engineering was given the NAST Environmental Science Special Citation for her outstanding scientific and technological research work that contributes to environmental protection and conservation.
