DEFER OPENING OF CLASSES — UE STUDENT GROUP

/ 31 July 2021

A STUDENT group asked the University of the East-Caloocan to delay the opening of classes for Academic Year 2021-2022 because of the reimposition of enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region.

Classes in the university are set to open on August 9. The Central Student Council asked that it be moved to August 23.

Malacañang announced on Friday that NCR will be under the strictest lockdown from August 6 to 20 to curb the spread of the Delta variant of Covid19.

“We request that you consider the intensified burden placed on the students affected. Amid the global crisis, our first and foremost responsibility is to prioritize students’ and faculty’s welfare and meet their brightest future,” CSC said in a letter to UE President Ester Garcia.

“This adjustment will also provide students and their families with adequate and reasonable time to deal with the health and financial crisis caused by the pandemic,” it added.

Delaying the opening of classes would also allow the school to encourage more learners to enroll.

“The students are still waiting for the final list of the release of scholars as it will affect their decision to enroll in the university. Students who will enroll physically will not be able to go to school due to lockdown,” the group said.
