BULACAN STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PREFER PRINTED MODULES FOR LEARNING

/ 18 August 2020

PRINTED lessons remain as the top mode of learning for the coming school year.

At least most of the 38,000 students of the Bulacan State University are in favor of the system following a recent survey conducted by the school.

The university asked its students whether they prefer printed lessons, online classes, or a combination of the two modes once the new school year kicks off on Sept. 14.

According to the survey guidelines, printouts which are provided under a Remote Print Learning (RPL) system is a choice for students, who learn best when they are given enough time to browse the materials and self-study, have good study habits, can manage time properly, and learn best when reading printed materials.

“The survey is still ongoing, but initial results suggest that many students of the Bulacan State University prefer studying using print materials because of concerns that they will not afford internet connections for the whole semester, or reside in areas with poor internet connectivity,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Joseph Roy Celestino.

The choices also include Synchronous Learning (SL), which means students have gadgets such as smart telephones, laptops, or desktop computers and have access to stable internet connections.

Such provision offered by BSU is for students who prefer constant interactions with their professors.

Meanwhile, Asynchronous Online Learning (AOL) is a system for students who have the required gadgets but who have no access to a consistent internet connection. The students would be given more time to browse the materials and self-study.

Celestino also stressed that faculty members would need to familiarize themselves with different online teaching platforms.

BSU conducted a series of webinars to help prepare its faculty in online teaching at this time of the Covid19 pandemic.

Cecilia Gascon, BSU president, said printed materials will be distributed for free if RPL becomes the top choice from the survey.
