ATENEO STUDENTS SHOWCASE RESEARCH AT APAMI CONFERENCE

/ 16 October 2024

STUDENTS from the Ateneo School of Government participated in the 13th Biennial Conference of the Asia Pacific Association for Medical Informatics (APAMI), collaborating with the Department of Health’s Doctors to the Barrios Program.

Medical professionals from across the nation gathered to discuss best practices and challenges in health informatics. Ateneo students, including Dr. Reina Juno Sumatra, Dr. Stephen Miayo, and others, presented key research papers.

Their presentations featured studies such as “Bridging the Digital Divide through Open Radio Access Network,” which explored the use of ORAN to enhance healthcare in remote areas, and “Addressing Patient E-Referral System Inefficiencies Through Policy Innovation,” which focused on improving referral systems in Central Visayas.

Additional papers addressed topics such as digital inclusion and policy innovations, including “Improving Digital Inclusion in Universal Health Care” through telemedicine, as well as the effects of SMS reminders on oral contraceptive adherence.

These research efforts, supported by their mentors and integrated into their MPM-HG coursework, aim to advance Universal Health Care in the Philippines.

Themed “Game Changers in Digital Health,” the event took place earlier this month at the University of the Philippines Bonifacio Global City.
