ATENEO EYES PARTNERSHIP WITH CHILE
THE ATENEO de Manila University recently hosted Chile’s Ambassador to the Philippines Alvaro Domingo Jara Bucarey.
Bucarey paid a courtesy call on Ateneo President Fr. Roberto Yap SJ on Thursday, May 18, to discuss the possible partnership between the Chilean government and the university.
Among the potential areas of collaboration being considered is the establishment of a Latin American Studies course, alongside Ateneo’s pre-existing courses in European Studies, Chinese Studies, Korean Studies, and Japanese Studies.
“H E Jara is particularly keen on pursuing projects and academic partnerships in the fields of political science and languages,” Ateneo said.
“H E Jara is also interested in sending more Chilean students to the Philippines, and more Filipino students to Chile, through linkages between Chilean universities, Ateneo, and other schools and colleges within the global Jesuit network,” it added.
The Ambassador was joined by Deputy Head of Mission and Consul of the Embassy of Chile Marco Antonio Navarro Ahumada.
Also present at the courtesy call were Ateneo’s Office of International Relations Karen Sunico and incoming Assistant Vice President for University Partnerships and Internationalization Ma. Cristina Alikpala.
