A MEMBER of the Board of Trustees of the Ateneo de Manila University has been appointed as president of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific.

Fr. Primitivo “Jun” Viray SJ, who is the Provincial of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus, took the post vacated by Fr. Antonio Moreno SJ.

His appointment was made through a decree from Fr. General Arturo Sosa SJ, dated June 13, 2023.

JCAP said Viray will collaborate with the Major Superiors in the Jesuit conference in implementing the decrees of the last General Congregations.

“He will likewise serve as the Major Superior of the Jesuits in Pakistan, the newest mission territory of JCAP,” it added.

JCAP is one of the six Jesuit Conferences that coordinate and facilitate the mission of the Jesuits around the world, covering the Society’s work in Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
