2 CARAGA STATE U PROFESSORS WIN SCHOLARSHIP IN FRANCE

/ 12 December 2021

TWO faculty members of the Caraga State University were awarded full doctoral scholarship by the PhilFrance- Department of Science and Technology Fellowship Program.

College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences’ Mathematics professors Karen Burdeos and Shiela Permanes bested hundreds of applicants and secured the sought-after scholarship grants in France.

The two will study at the Universite de Picardie Jules Verne. Burdeos and Permanes will pursue degrees on Applied Mathematics and in Mathematics, respectively.

“The program aims to foster the mobility to France of Filipino professionals working in academic, research, or government institutions; selected jointly on the basis of academic excellence to pursue a Master’s or Doctorate degree in French public higher education institutions under the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research of the French Republic,” CSU said.

Under the scholarship grant, the DOST will provide monthly living allowance, one round trip ticket, relocation allowance and pre-travel expenses.

The French Embassy, on the other hand, will give them the status of French government scholar which entitles them to benefits such as exemption from public university registration fees; a health care package composed of mandatory national social security coverage; a supplementary insurance policy; a priority access to public student housing facilities; and exemption from French long-stay visa application fees.

Upon completion of their degree program, the two professors will return to CSU to render service on a full-time basis for a period equivalent to twice the length of time that they enjoyed the PhD scholarship.
