The Graphic Literature Guild (GLG) is a cultural student organization based in the University of the Philippines – Los Banos (UPLB) that has continuously sought to promote artistic appreciation, creative advancement, and widespread awareness of graphic literature in the local art community. It invites and caters to all types of artists, writers, and comic enthusiasts that may be interested in engaging with its endeavors.

These include creative prompts posted on its various social media accounts, fun comics from the Guild members, and of course, the Guild’s pride and trademark event, ELBIKON!

ELBIKON is the Guild’s annual comic convention that has served as the region’s showcase of creative talent. This year, it will be adopting a theme that is sure to bring forth plenty of nostalgia for those who grew alongside the era of retro gaming.

On ELBIKON’s 8th run, the theme will be “8-bit”!

Embark on a journey from the comfort of your own home while the Guild introduces you to various local artists and collectives. Witness their endeavor to showcase their unique talents and skilled craftsmanship within the Guild’s many halls.

Miguel, a member of the Guild, recalls “I bought stickers and prints, enjoying all types of artwork. I was inspired by artists making a name for themselves, selling their artwork for the first time. Returning to the dorm, I remember laying on the table all the prints, pins, and stickers I have. It was a truly unique experience.”

Meanwhile, Jamie, the current Guild Master, shares, “Going to ELBIKON 2019 solidified my desire to join The Graphic Literature Guild and it was an opportunity for participants like me at the time to be exposed to the local art community. We hope that this event is as much of an effective platform for Filipino artists as the previous iterations of it have been.

Regardless of how much or how little you know of the local arts scene, ELBIKON is an opportunity for creators, enthusiasts, and people looking to satiate their curiosities. It is a journey where all paths converge to meet at the same venue to celebrate artistic expression. The event will last for a total of eight (8) hours from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (PHT) on May 15, Saturday. The event is free of charge and open to all!

So, make sure to invite your friends and level up alongside your peers as you enjoy the shared experience of going through the fascinating exhibits together, or disembark on a relaxing solo journey going through the event at your own pace and at your own convenience. Either way, one thing’s for sure, you won’t want to miss out on the event’s bountiful rewards!

Lastly, a statement from Charlie, the organizer of the event, reads “I have a lot of love for all our exhibitors, volunteers, sponsors, and of course, Guild members—I’m optimistic that this event will turn out to be a success because of everyone’s support and contributions. ELBIKON 8-Bit is truly a passion project by artists and for artists, and I hope everyone can look forward to it.
