DEPED REINFORCES STREAMLINED GUIDELINES TO ADDRESS SCHOOL SECURITY VIOLATIONS

/ 3 July 2026

THE DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd) has reinforced streamlined guidelines to address security violations in schools, classifying bomb threats and the carrying or concealment of deadly weapons as grave offenses punishable by severe disciplinary sanctions.

The policy forms part of the comprehensive School Safety Campaign spearheaded by Education Secretary Sonny Angara to safeguard learners amid emerging security challenges.

“Alinsunod sa layunin ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na tiyakin ang kapakanan at proteksyon sa mga paaralan, hindi natin papayagan ang anumang banta sa kaligtasan ng ating mga mag-aaral. Responsibilidad nating lahat na siguraduhin na ang bawat paaralan ay ligtas, payapa, at malayo sa takot o karahasan,” Angara said.

DepEd Order No. 006, s. 2026, issued on March 24, 2026, institutionalizes the Guidelines on Ensuring a Safe and Motivating Learning Environment, harmonizing learner protection policies across all public schools.

Under the consolidated framework, making bomb threats or bomb jokes, as well as bringing or concealing deadly weapons in schools or during school-sanctioned activities, are classified as third-level offenses—the most serious category of disciplinary violations.

Learners found guilty of third-level offenses face immediate administrative sanctions, including non-readmission for a first offense and exclusion from the institution for a second offense.

Schools are also required to immediately refer such cases to law enforcement authorities and social welfare agencies for appropriate investigation, intervention, and other necessary actions.
