CHED: PROGRAM CLOSURES IN HEIS BASED ON QUALITY STANDARDS
THE COMMISSION on Higher Education (CHED) on Monday stressed that program closures in select higher education institutions (HEIs) are based on quality standards.
The agency remarked on the CHED Commission en banc (CEB) issued Resolution Nos. 091-2026, 092-2026, and 093-2026 approving the immediate closure of identified programs of AMA Computer Colleges in Cebu, Davao, and Tuguegarao.
In a statement, the CHED said the concerned HEI still has available ways to resolve the matter, provided it complies with existing requirements.
“CHED respectfully informs AMA that remedies are available under the law to protect its rights against the closure orders,” it said.
It also urged HEIs, in general, to submit their concerns through proper channels instead of coming up with “publicity stunts.”
“CHED likewise encourages all HEIs to refrain from coursing its issues through the media whenever they have concerns because CHED will not dignify publicity stunts by any higher education institution under its regulatory jurisdiction,” it added.
The CHED made the call after an alleged complaint was reportedly filed against CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis before the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) for their supposed inaction on AMA’s letters.
“While the Commission has yet to officially receive a copy of the alleged complaint cited in the Bilyonaryo report, CHED firmly rejects the unfounded and misleading allegations directed against the Commission and its Chairperson, Dr. Shirley Agrupis,” it said.
On May 7, Agrupis had a letter-reply addressed to AMA Education System President Arnel Hibo on matters concerning the closure orders.
For its part, the AMA has undertaken to proceed with the voluntary closure of the identified programs of the concerned AMA Computer Colleges campuses after a meeting with CHED officials. (PNA)
