UPOU FORGES MULTI-SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS TO ADVANCE SUSTAINABILITY AT IFSS 2025
THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) formalized three key partnerships during the International Forum on Sustainability Science (IFSS) 2025 held recently at Negros Residences in Bacolod City.
The collaborations aim to strengthen ties among academe, government, industry, and communities in pursuing circular, renewable, and regenerative futures.
UPOU and Negros Electric and Power Corporation signed an agreement to promote career readiness, industry-academe cooperation, and capacity-building programs aligned with sustainability goals.
A tripartite partnership among UPOU, the Department of Science and Technology–Negros Island Region (DOST–NIR), and STI West Negros University was also formalized to convene stakeholders in transforming food systems guided by the forum’s theme, “Circularity, Renewability, and Regenerative Futures.”
Another memorandum of agreement between UPOU, DOST–NIR, and the Technological University of the Philippines Visayas commits to collaborative research, education, and technology-driven interventions for sustainable food systems.
UPOU Chancellor Dr. Joane V. Serrano said the partnerships reflect the university’s continuing commitment “to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in responsible production, climate action, and partnerships for the greater good.”
