THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Open University has been awarded Level 4 Accreditation, the highest distinction from the Asian Association of Open Universities Accreditation System.

“This recognition marks a significant milestone as UPOU celebrates its 30th anniversary this year,” UPOU said in a statement.

“It underscores the university’s leadership in open and distance education and its unwavering dedication to delivering quality and accessible learning experiences in the Philippines and beyond,” it added.

During the evaluation, the AAOU Accreditation Team, led by Prof. Kam Cheong Li of Hong Kong Metropolitan University, assessed UPOU’s compliance with international standards in open and distance education.

The accreditation team praised UPOU’s strengths and offered strategic recommendations “to guide its continued growth and innovation in the field.”

Established in 1987, AAOU promotes open and distance education across Asia. It focuses on improving access, quality, and collaboration among member institutions.
