ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro is urging a comprehensive investigation into reported anomalies within the Department of Education during Vice President Sara Duterte’s tenure as Education Secretary.

Castro made the call after DepEd officials revealed the distribution of cash envelopes and questioned the use of confidential funds.

Castro emphasized the urgency of addressing these allegations, stating that reports of cash gifts and fund misuse within DepEd are deeply concerning and require immediate investigation.

“It is crucial to uphold integrity and transparency in our education system, which is fundamental to the development of our youth,” Castro said.

She added, “The revelations about DepEd officials receiving cash envelopes from high-ranking officials are alarming. If true, this constitutes a serious breach of public trust and must be addressed with urgency.”

Castro also pointed out the broader impact of these allegations, noting that the education sector is already struggling with significant challenges, including the persistent shortage of classrooms.

“Instead of solving these issues, alleged corruption further undermines the quality of education that Filipino students deserve,” she said.

The solon called on her fellow lawmakers to support the investigation, stressing, “We must unite in demanding accountability and ensuring that education resources are used properly. Our educators, students, and the Filipino people deserve no less.”
