A SCHOOL principal has launched Project SOBRE (Sending Our Best Regards, Embraces, and Heartfelt Connection) for the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Bucay BJMP District Jail, with the goal of providing hope to PDLs.

The initiative encourages students from Pagala West Elementary School, Pagala East Elementary School, and Bangcagan Primary School in the Bucay District, Schools Division of Abra, to send handwritten letters to PDLs, offering them messages of hope and support.

This project was spearheaded by Dr. Mary Hazel B. Ballena, Principal III.

“In addition to this, we also conduct a small feeding program for the 58 PDLs at BJMP,” Ballena said.

“Whenever we have a colleague or sponsor celebrating a birthday or a promotion, I encourage them to share their blessings with our friends at the jail. As for me, whenever I win a competition, I don’t hesitate to share my success and happiness with them.”

Ballena aims to continue and expand Project SOBRE, hoping it will “serve as a reminder that PDLs are still a part of society and deserve our understanding and love.”
