FORMER Commission on Higher Education chairperson Patricia Licuanan does not favor the laxing restrictions of foreign ownership of educational institutions in the country.

Licuanan made her statement during the hearing in the Senate on amending economic provisions of 1987 Constitution.

“I do not favor amendments to restrictions on foreign ownership of educational institutions at any level,” Licuanan said.

She pointed out that such partnerships could and should be developed further even without Charter change.

Meanwhile, Senior Consultant of the Arizona State University Dr. Gael Mcdonald said that the said move would provide diverse educational programs.

“So the first one is clearly the benefits around knowledge because you can provide very diverse educational programs that might not be available locally. That obviously gives opportunities of building local capacity in both students and staff,” Mcdonald said.

She furthered that foreign ownership in the educational institutions in the country would ensure quality education.
