PUP SUSPENDS INCENTIVES FOR PRESIDENT’S LISTERS
THE POLYTECHNIC University of the Philippines scrapped the giving of P1K incentive to its academic achievers starting Academic Year 2020-2021.
The university initially hands out the amount to students who have qualified for a scholarship grant with a general weighted average of 1.50 or more.
It was later cut down to only 10 percent of the total numbers of the president’s lister as approved by the Board of Regents.
The PUP Executive Committee approved of the measure dated June 13, which is effective until further notice.
The measure obviously did not sit well with the studentry, saying this might be the result of PUP’s proposed budget cut for the year 2023.
“Ngayon nama’y tinanggal ang insentibo kada-semestre na taon ang lumilipas bago matanggap ng mga estudyante. Patunay lamang ito na may panggigipit sa sektor ng mga iskolar!” one netizen said in an announcement by The Communicator, the official student publication of PUP’s College of Communication.
No further explanation has been communicated by the university as to the reason for the suspension.
