UE STUDENT GROUP SEEKS ASYNCHRONOUS CLASSES

/ 25 August 2022

A STUDENT group of the University of the East on Wednesday asked faculty members to conduct only asynchronous classes with no same-day submissions and quizzes.

In an open letter addressed to the UE Faculty Association, the University Student Council said that several learners are still experiencing power outage, unstable internet connection and problems brought by Severe Tropical Storm Florita.

“The USC strongly believes that the administration shall prioritize consideration for both the students and the faculty’s welfare as the current tropical storm has affected them, making them unequipped for this learning modality as power outage and unstable internet connection continue to disrupt the classes,” the student body said.

“An approval of this appeal will be a big aid in the midst of this crisis. After all, the USC upholds that there should not be anyone who must be left behind during this crisis,” it added.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. suspended work and classes in all levels from August 23 to 24 because of the onslaught of ‘Florita’.

The suspension covered Metro Manila and nearby provinces including Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales and Bataan.

However, the UE administration announced on Tuesday night that online classes will proceed as scheduled despite the suspension.
