DEPED TO ADDRESS CHILDREN’S RIGHTS IN THE NEW NORMAL

/ 22 November 2021

THE DEPARTMENT of Education will address the needs of children and how they can be further protected during the observance of National Children’s Month in November.

With the theme, “New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan,” this year’s NCM celebration will be anchored on the domestic and international rights of the child.

Different children’s rights will be tackled during the event.

The first week will delve into the survival rights, the second week will tackle development rights, while participation rights and protection rights will be covered on the third and fourth weeks, respectively.

“As the country gradually recovers from the pandemic, we will continuously champion the rights and welfare of our children,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a statement.

“The month-long celebration will take off from the previous and current challenges, and learnings of the Philippines in terms of promoting and upholding children’s rights,” she added.

To ensure everyone’s safety, Briones noted that the NCM activities will “strictly comply with the minimum health standards.”

“It shall utilize print, broadcast, outdoor, and social media as tools in educating Filipinos on children’s rights, parenting, and the concerns surrounding them,” she said.

NCM activities supported by DepEd include a weekly screening of documentaries every Friday, play activities for children, and the 4th Conference on Digital Parenting: Webinar on Digital Well-being on Nov. 23.

DepEd will likewise spearhead the Third National Summit on the Rights of the Child in Education on Nov. 25 to 26 to focus on rights-based education in the department.

The NCM culminating ceremony and awarding for the NCM Logo Making Contest will be on Nov. 26.
