SAINT LOUIS U URGED TO ALLOW STUDENTS WITH UNPAID BALANCE TO ENROLL
STUDENTS of the Saint Louis University in Baguio City appealed to school officials to allow those who have unpaid balance in the previous semester to enroll.
The SLU administration released a new financial advisory last August 8, stating that learners who have unpaid balance from the previous semester will not be permitted to enroll.
In a letter to Vice President for Finance Dr. Noel De Leon, the Supreme Student Council and KASAMA sought reconsideration of the policy.
“Given the fact that the enrollment policies were disseminated a night before the enrollment, students and parents were not given ample time to financially prepare for it at least,” the groups said.
Under the new policy, learners who have unpaid balance can avail of a student loan from bukas.ph with an 18-21 percent interest per annum.
The groups also asked the school to allow the use of promissory notes and to grant “A Notice of Award” to students who are eligible for scholarships.
“Retention of promissory notes allows students to have more options to choose where to get their payment for their tuition fee. Allowing promissory notes would let them have ample time to transact to a different bank of their choice,” they said.
“A Notice of Award or a Letter of Guarantee serves as the legal document issued by a grantor via Email to notify the scholarship grantee that an award together with the financial benefits, based on a submitted proposal, has been made,” they added.
