WE HAVE TO BALANCE CONCERNS OF ALL SECTORS, SAYS UE PRESIDENT
THE UNIVERSITY of the East “is trying its best to adjust to the situation of the students” but it has to consider the interest of all stakeholders in making decisions, Ester Garcia, school president, said.
Garcia issued the statement after students questioned the school’s decision to hike tuition in the past years.
“We are quite aware of the situation of the students hence we try our best to adjust. However, as managers of the University we cannot look only at one sector,” Garcia said.
She explained that the administration must balance the concerns of students, faculty and staff while ensuring the continued existence of the university.
“We have to make everyone aware of the issues confronting everyone,” she added.
On April 28, the students welcomed the move of the university to rule out tuition increase.
However, they pointed out that the university must safeguard students’ welfare and rights, especially on the controversy on the suspension of scholarship grants.
“To be perfectly honest, we cannot merely say yes to anything as blatantly unreasonable as this. The students, therefore, call for nothing less than a dialogue with higher management to settle this disconnecting issue. We demand an explanation,” they said.
