The Technological University of the Philippines System will hold asynchronous classes from April 5 to 11 to give faculty members and students a breather.

The university said that the decision was made amid the implementation of stricter quarantine protocols.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Dionisio Espression Jr. said that they took into consideration the challenges students faced during the Covid19 pandemic.

“The TUP Management recognizes that this pandemic has affected our students physically, mentally, emotionally, and economically. We have received reports of students struggling to attend synchronous classes due to socio-economic factors aggravated by the current community quarantine,” he said in a memorandum.

“With due regard to the safety and well-being of our faculty members and staff and students, the suspension of synchronous activities is being declared to help lighten the burdens felt by everyone,” he added.

The school said that the money students would use for internet connectivity or data connection could instead be used for other essential goods and necessities.
