4 PH INSTITUTIONS IN LIST OF BEST UNIVERSITIES BY SUBJECT
FOUR academic institutions in the Philippines made it to the list of world’s best universities by subject released by Quacquarelli Symonds, an international higher education information provider.
The 2021 QS University Rankings by Subject placed UP in the 101-150 rank for Politics and International Studies, and 151-200 rank for English Language and Literature, Agriculture and Forestry, and Geography.
UP was featured in 15 of 51 subject rankings.
Among the subjects are Linguistics in 251-300 rank; Modern Languages, 251-300 rank; Law, 251-300; Sociology, 251-300; Medicine, 301-350; Environmental Sciences, 301-350; Business and Management Studies, 351-400; Economics and Econometrics, 351-400; Computer Science and Information Systems, 551-600; and Biological Sciences, 551-600.
“However, despite these examples of excellence, none of the University of the Philippines’ 15 ranked programs have improved their global rank this year,” QS said.
It added that UP’s Archaeology program was edged out of the top 200 this year, dropping to the 201-220 rank from 151-200 in 2020.
The Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University ranked in four subjects each, while the University of Santo Tomas ranked in Medicine, but fell to 601-650 from 551-600 last year.
ADMU entered the rankings in Modern Languages, 251-300; and Business and Management Studies, 451-500. It retained its rank in English, Language and Literature, 201-250, but fell in Sociology, 301-320 from 251-300.
Also, ADMU retained its place in Social Sciences and Management, 451-500, while it dropped in Arts and Humanities, 451-500 from 401-450.
DLSU entered the rankings this year in Business and Management Studies, 301-350, and Economics and Econometrics, 451-500.
The university retained its rank in Linguistics, 201-250; and English, Language and Literature, 201-250.
It also maintained its rank in Social Sciences and Management and Arts and Humanities.
