According to the World Bank Organization, the Philippines is responsible for producing an astounding 2.7 million tons of waste made of plastic each and every year, of which it is believed that 20 percent is dumped into the ocean. In an effort to lessen their impact on the environment, a family established a zero-waste store near their house. The Family of Lola “Luming” is a family that aspires to lead their community to live an environmentally conscious life.

Their store has a strict Bring Your Own Container (BYOC) rule which aims to cut down on the amount of single-use plastic that is consumed by enabling you to refill your own containers at home with personal care and household cleaning goods that are created without compromising environmental or ethical standards.

You may get white jasmine rice, antibacterial soaps, nuts, pasta, and pretty much everything else that you would normally find in a grocery store, with the exception of the packaging.

The benefit of this is that customers do not have to purchase predetermined portions of food that may be partially wasted because they are able to weigh out the exact number of the components that they require at purchase. This also implies that you are only paying for what you really need, which results in a savings of money compared to the SRP in grocery stores.
