ANOTHER TYPHOON, ANOTHER CAUSE FOR DONATIONS: HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP THE FAMILIES DEVASTATED BY #ULYSSESPH

On November 11, the Philippines was met with unexpected harsh winds and intensely strong downpour of rain, leaving millions of Filipinos stranded and with nowhere to go. As the third storm in the past week, Ulysses was the final straw that finally took down houses, trees, and mountains across Luzon, leaving a trail of ruin at its wake.

Raise your hand if you’re tired of constantly feeling like there’s nothing you can do to change the country and help your countrymen. Raise your hand if you have the extreme urge to donate what you can, but after the nth cause, you just feel sad that this is the cycle of Filipino life. (*raises hand*)

Well, we can be disappointed and help out at the same time, because so many of our neighbors are facing the consequences of others’ incompetence and inability to lead—and they don’t deserve to. So, even if you feel like your help is nothing compared to the amount lost by these families, HELP, still. And that’s something we all need in these days of hopelessness and helplessness.

I mean, who else are we supposed to look to for help? ‘Anong ambag mo’, they ask? We can, we should, and we will!

If you’re looking for ways to donate your energy, time, or resources to helping families get to safety and back on their feet, here’s a quick list on where to start:

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

We need all hands on deck urgently as there’s so much to be done that needs manual labor: rescuing stranded families, tracking and identifying people in need of rescue, repacking donated goods, delivering donations, and more. Check out these organizations that are currently in need of more manpower.

CALL FOR DONATIONS: MONETARY AND IN-KIND

If you can’t lend your energy and time, cash and goods are also warmly welcomed. Even a small amount can feed one person with a hot meal, or give a family access to clean water. Blankets, clothes, sanitary napkins, face masks, alcohol, food and drinks, are just some of the things evacuees are in need of, and if you have any extra, we highly encourage you to share it with those who need it most right now. Marie Kondo those closets, and give things that might spark more joy for other people too.
