IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOUR MUSIC TASTE IS, THIS ‘AI’ BOT WILL ROAST YOUR SPOTIFY PLAYLIST THE BEST WAY IT CAN

Spotify Wrapped’s grumpy cousin is on the loose and it is ruthlessly judging everyone’s taste in music.

There are days when you pride yourself for creating a playlist that defines your whole character..you listen to it non-stop, share it on your Instagram stories, and link it to your friends. But what if I tell you that someone on the internet is not pleased with your music taste?

The all-new A.I.  (artificial intelligence) bot, How Bad Is Your Spotify?, is designed to make fun of you and the songs you listen to on Spotify. The bot was developed by digital publication ‘The Pudding,’ and was ‘trained’ by Mike Lacher and Matt Daniels.

The AI bot not only ruthlessly ridicules you for your music taste, it also makes sure that you’re having fun whilst talking to it. It explains that it has “been trained on a corpus of over two million indicators of objectively good music, including Pitchfork reviews, record store recommendations, and subreddits you’ve never heard of,” as its qualification to judge your music taste.

After you grant the bot access to your Spotify, you’ll be asked a series of condescending questions like “Do you really listen to Lana Del Rey?” or question if you are really doing alright your proclivity towards a certain artist.

Depending on your music taste, the bot would “rate” your Spotify library like this:

Based on your listening habits, I can also tell you your Spotify was…

> mid-nineties-flannel-shirt bad

> midwest-classic-rock bad

> adult-skateboarder bad

> but-travis-is-a-virtuoso bad

> acoustic-boomer bad

According to Mike Lacher, one of its developers, the AI is designed to mock Spotify Wrapped which highlights and caps users’ listening habits for the year.

”We wanted to make something similar to Spotify Wrapped, but instead of celebrating your music, it would insult it. For us personally, we knew that the stuff we stream privately is often embarrassing, so we thought it would be funny to make a bot that would look through all that stuff and judge you. We wanted it to feel like a judgemental friend, or a snobby record store clerk,” he said.
