Ang imprastraktura ay popondohan ng P200 milyon para sa buong konstruksyon.

Pinangunahan ni Iloilo City Lone District Rep. Julienne Baronda ang grounbreaking ceremony sa proyekto.

Sinabi ni Baronda na matagal na niyang pangarap na magkaroon ng world class na pasilidad para sa mga atleta sa kanilang lungsod.

“As a former varsity player since my younger years, it is my dream to have a world-class facility for our athletes. Iloilo City Sports Center will make us realize that dream. We will produce champions and even Olympians in the next few years,” pahayag ni Baronda.

Idinagdag ni Baronda na sa pasilidad na ito pinaplanong itayo ang ipinapanukala niyang Iloilo City Sports Academy na pamumunuan ng top-caliber trainers para sa science-based at holistic training sa Ilonggo athletes.

“Athletes should learn to be magnanimous in victory and gracious in defeat. My sports training made me disciplined, strong, and resilient. I want that nurtured in the hearts and minds of the Ilonggo athletes along with the world-class training,” diin pa ni Baronda.

Ang proyekto ay inisyal na popondohan ng P50 milyon sa ilalim ng 2021 General Appropriations Act.

Pinasalamatan naman ni Baronda si Education Secretary Leonor Brione at si Undersecretary Alain del Pascua sa kanilang suporta sa pagtatayo ng sports center sa compound ng JMNHS.
