SAN SEBASTIAN GRABS FIRST WIN AFTER OUTLASTING EAC IN A SWEEP
San Sebastian College - Recoletos (SSC-R) defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) and capped its first win in the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament with a three-set sweep, 25-11, 25-13, 25-16.
Coach Roger Gorayeb of San Sebastian shared his delight at being able to return to NCAA again after recovering from a multiple myeloma disease and followed by the coronavirus-aborted 2020 season.
Gorayeb’s management of the Lady Stags proved to be efficient as the team easily cap off the first set with 11 points advantage, 25-11.
The Lady Generals tried to keep pace to heist the second set but Katherine Santos was unstoppable and contributed 14 points one of which was an attack from the back to seize the second frame, 25-13.
Reyann Canete and Kristine Dionisio also helped with their eight points apiece followed by Alexia Sison’s 19 excellent sets while Roxanne Tan and Jewelle Bermillo poured nine digs each in the match.
EAC was able to advance at the opening of the third set with two points and was able to handle a long rally but cut off after Anne Formento’s failed to set and Monna Bañares’ outside pass.
And the lefty hitter Jamille Carreon of San Sebastian also sparked the team despite going inside on the court at the third set with her power two attacks in a row to give the Lady Stags a big advantage, 17-8.
While Shane Requierme finished the job with her straight attack to give the match point before EAC’s two-match point was saved, 25-16.
