NU OVERPOWERS FEU TO REMAIN SPOTLESS
National University (NU) inches closer to an elimination sweep after a four-set match against Far Eastern University (FEU), 24-26, 25-17, 25-19, 25-10, yesterday in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball at Mall of Asia Arena.
NU kept their winning streak to 13-0 as Jen Nierva proved to be the guardian deity of the Bulldogs with her 18 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions.
However, NU fell short in the first set after a deuce with Alyssa Solomon hitting into the net to give the set point to FEU followed by Bella Belen’s outside hit, 24-26.
“‘Yun yung consequence pag hindi kami naglaro nang maayos, hindi kami nag effort,” shared Lady Bulldogs head coach Karl DImaculangan on their slow start.
“‘Yung mga ganong game ‘yun ‘yung nireremind ko sa kanila na hindi kami pwede maging complacent kahit sinong kalaban, good thing na lang din nakarecover kami.”
After a shaky start, the second set favored the side of NU after stopping FEU to keep a score at all 14 and surged with an 11-3 run with Solomon’s final touch in the second canto, 25-17.
Belen commandeered the team with her 18 points followed by Sheena Toring’s 12 to cap the third set with a 25-19 gap.
Accordingly, the Lady Bulldogs did not waste time as they finished the game with a whopping gap of 15 points in the last set.
