GOV. REMULLA, OTHER FIGHTING MAROONS’ BACKERS BELIEVES MONTEVERDE CAN BRING BACK TITLE TO UP

UP Fighting Maroons backer and Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla believe that the squad can win its very first UAAP men’s basketball title since 1986 under the mentorship of a new coach, Goldwin Monteverde.

Remulla and UP’s most avid backers would like to believe that Monteverde can prove himself on the collegiate level as he gives a shot to steer back the title to the University.

Monteverde had a decorated coaching stint in the junior ranks, the Regal matriarch Lily Monteverde son’s track record speaks for himself as he brought his teams to the championships in his time in Chiang Kai Shek, Adamson, and National University-Nazareth School.

“When we were assessing Goldwin’s application, the No. 1 consideration was his basketball mind. One thing that was very obvious was that he’s a winner,” said UP top booster and Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla in a recent Sandwich Sessions with Summit Media editors and writers.

“He’s proven himself in every level, from kindergarten to grade school, to high school, he’s been a winner throughout all these levels,” Remulla remarked.

Despite lacking experience in coaching a senior’s teams as he has never held a post for a collegiate squad, Remulla still believes that the mentor is ready for the next level.

“I think it’s time to bring his talents to the college level. I think he’s ready to coach in the big leagues,” he said.

Last August, Monteverde was formally named the Fighting Maroons’ new head coach, taking over the post from Bo Perasol who is now the team’s new program director.

Monteverde reunited with his former high school stars Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, and Terrence Fortea in the Fighting Maroons camp.

“I think he has a great basketball mind and he has a great winning mindset and I think he’s a great addition to UP.”
