SBP TO HOST FIBA ASIA CUP QUALIFIERS AFTER IATF’S APPROVAL
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has finally received the green light from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to host next month's FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers in Clark.
This new development was announced by presidential spokesperson Harry Roque yesterday.
“The SBP has been working with FIBA, government agencies, and other partners to ensure a successful and, more importantly, a safe bubble,” SBP said in a separate statement.
Moreover, Roque affirmed that the competition will undergo the FIBA protocols on testing and quarantine for arriving participants.
The FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers were supposed to happen last February but were put to a halt due to the country’s travel ban and the rising cases of COVID-19.
After that Qatar assumed the responsibility yet was not able to push through and now, FIBA will officially run from June 16 to 20 under a bubble set up.
“We’re looking forward to hosting our friends from South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Guam, and Chinese Taipei and showing them the kind of hospitality that the Philippines is known for,” SBP stated.
