REMEDY RULE LOSES OUT ON WOMEN’S 100-METER BUTTERFLY SEMIS BERTH; TO COMPETES FOR 200-FLY NEXT
Filipina swimmer Remedy Rule failed to secure a semifinals berth on the women’s 100-meter butterfly after finishing 25th among 33 swimmers on Saturday, July 24, at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.
Rule failed to make it through the top 16 cut of the Tokyo Olympics 100-meter butterfly.
However, she placed second in Heat 2 with a time of 59.68 seconds behind Ireland’s Ellen Walshe who topped the heat with a time of 59.35.
After five heats, Rule failed to make it to the top 16 after Australia’s Brianna Throssell bagged the last spot after recording 58.08s.
China’s Yufei Zhang and Australia’s Emma McKeon both top-scored the event after registering with a clocking of 55.82 seconds, followed by a defending champion Sarah Sjoestroem of Sweden who ended with 56.18.
The Fil-American swimmer will next compete in her signature event, the women’s 200-meter butterfly, on Tuesday, July 27.
The University of Texas standout holds three silver and one bronze medals in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Rule currently holds the Philippine record in the women’s 100-meter butterfly with a clocking of 59.55 seconds, which she chipped in the Longhorn Elite Invite in Austin, Texas,
In the women’s 200 meter butterfly, Rule holds a record of 2 minutes and 9.58 seconds, which she set in the TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines.
