Despite the current COVID-19 situation in the country, the league is persistent in starting its new season with the Open Conference on February 16.

The Open Conference will be participated by at least 10 clubs and will be held either at the Paco Arena Events and Sports Center in Manila or at Royale Tagaytay in a full bubble setup.

“We’re looking at three conferences this year which will start with the Open Conference, hopefully, next month in a bubble set up,” said PVL president Ricky Palou. “We have Royale Tagaytay as our backup venue in case we won’t be allowed to hold our games in Manila.”

“We are still waiting for clearance from the IATF and GAB,” he added.

The conference will run for three months with the same single round-robin preliminaries and then advancing to the semifinals.

Further, Sta. Lucia will not participate in the second season. While the Open Conference champion last year Chery Tiggo, Creamline, BaliPure, Choco Mucho, Cignal HD, Perlas Spikers, Petro Gazz, Army, PLDT, and F2 Logistics remain committed.

Palou also shared that there will be two new teams looking to take action in the PVL this season.

“There are new teams that want to join. We are still deliberating on it and doing our due diligence to see if they are willing to commit to the league for years,” he said.

The PVL president is determined that the league can stage three conferences this second season.

Sports Vision is also looking to pursue the PVL Asian Invitation slated from July 2 to August 7 at a still unidentified venue, where they will invite the national team and two foreign squads.

The field will be divided into two groups for the single-round eliminations for local teams with the top two of each side mixing it up in another single-round phase. The top four teams after another single round phase will move to the semis with the top two disputing the championship.

The league is also seeking to bring back the Reinforced Conference from Oct. 1 to Nov. 29 with the participating teams being allowed to tap up to two import players, using the same tournament format as the Open Conference.
