PSC GEARS UP FOR BATANG PINOY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN GENSAN

THE PHILIPPINE Sports Commission is ready to host the much-anticipated Batang Pinoy National Championships in General Santos City from October 25 to 30.

A total of 19,700 young athletes representing 191 local government units (LGUs) will compete across 27 sports disciplines, including aquatics-swimming, archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball (3×3), boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, futsal, gymnastics, jiu-jitsu, judo, kickboxing, karate, muay, pencak silat, sepak takraw, soft tennis, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.

“We are more prepared than ever,” said PSC Commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo during a press conference Thursday at Century Park Hotel in Manila. A four-time world champion and World Bowling Hall of Famer, Coo serves as the project director of Batang Pinoy, a national tournament for athletes 17 years old and under.

PSC Chairperson John Patrick Gregorio, together with Coo and Commissioners Matthew Gaston, Edward Hayco, and Walter Torres, unveiled the overall championship trophy during the press event.

Gregorio also revealed the cash prizes for the top five finishers: PHP5 million for first place, PHP4 million for second, PHP3 million for third, PHP2 million for fourth, and PHP1 million for fifth.

Pasig City claimed the overall championship in the 2024 edition held in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
