PH PARA DANCESPORT HAULS SEVEN GOLD, FOUR SILVER, AND SIX BRONZE MEDALS

The Philippines conquered the 2021 Polish Open Qualifying Round para dancesport competition in Lomianki, Poland, after procuring a myriad of medals, seven of which are gold, four silver, and six bronze.

Edelyn De Asis topped the podium of the Polish Para Dance Sport Open held in Lomianki, Poland, during the weekend (9-10 October).

De Asis shined and led the PH team after defeating Bonn 2019 World Championships gold medallist Olena Chynka from Ukraine in the women’s single freestyle 2 and single conventional 2 events.

As a conqueror, De Asis was unstoppable as she took another gold medal in junior competition, and won the fourth gold medal while teaming up with Julius Jun Obero in the duo freestyle class 2.

The Philippines pride continued to beam with eagerness to win as Obero won two additional gold medals in the combi Latin class 2 and freestyle combi class 2 while teaming up with Rhea Marquez.

Followed by another gold medal from Jhona Pena and Joey Maglasang in the duo standard class 2, the PH team is going home with 7 gold medals.

The Pinoy dancers did not stop there as De Asis and Shaquile Hanze Basan won a silver in the combi Latin class 2, Obero also placed second in the solo men’s class 2.

A total of four silver medals to which Christian Apolinario and Jhistine Glyde Baguio in the combi Latin class 1 and Pena and Filemon Baguio II in the freestyle combi class 2 contributed as well.

Meanwhile, six bronze medals were added by Anne Charlaine Santos in the solo women class 2; solo women class 2 freestyle; duo Latin class 2 and duo freestyle class 2 while teaming up with Apolinario; combi Latin class 2, and freestyle combi class 2 with Jed Villaruel.

Apolinario and Maglasang were also bronze medalists in the solo men’s class 2 freestyle.

All of the para dancers’ hardships and sacrifices would not have been possible without their head coach Genice Bong Marquez, and assistant coaches Tristan Ducay and Roque Marquez.
