PH MALDITAS PULLS OFF TWO LATE GOALS TO STUN NEPAL IN AFC WOMEN’S ASIAN CUP QUALIFIERS
The Philippine Malditas came up with a scorching win over Nepal, 2-1, behind late goals to open up their AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign on Saturday at the JAR Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The Malditas trailed almost the entire match after Nepalese striker Bimala Chaudhary punched a header goal at the ninth-minute mark of the game.
The Philippine squad strived hard to earn a goal but found difficulty in piercing the opposition backline of the ranked-101st team for the entirety of the match.
It was only in the last minute of regulation after Tahnai Annis delivered for the Filipinas’ first goal to tie the match, 1-1.
The Malditas fought hard to break through from a draw and immediately went back on the offensive.
Substitute Camille Wilson delivered the winning goal in the 92nd minute after a cross from Camille Rodrigues to open up their qualifying bid on a winning note.
“Getting the game-winning goal was unbelievable. Got to give credit to the whole team, we all played as a team. We all played hard until the final minute,” Wilson expressed.
Malditas will compete against Hong Kong on September 24, 6 pm at the same venue in hopes to qualify for the Asian Cup in India next year.
