PH GOLF TO RESTART TOURNEY; EXPECTS 78 REGISTRANTS

Golf will be the next sport to be holding its games in a bubble with Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. (PGTI) to resume with a two-tournament match for the men's and women's circuits.

“The management of Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. has studied the possibility of scheduling two tournaments to end the year and presented our Covid-19 protocols and new guidelines to the Games and Amusements Board and Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for their approval,” said PGTI general manager Colo Ventosa.

Men’s and women’s circuits are to swing off on November 17-20 and December 8-11 at Riviera’s Couples and Langers courses, respectively at Silang, Cavite.

The Philippine Golf Tour aimed not only to provide opportunities for the pros again but also underscoring that golf can live up to its reputation as one of the safer sports allowed to restart amid the pandemic.

This was after the forced shelving of the tournament for eight months following the coronavirus scare.

Last March, two events were actually held before the Covid-19—the ICTSI Pradera Classic, a spillover tournament capping the third season of PGT Asia last January, and The Country Club Invitational, the flagship event of each PGT season.

The pros will return to a new set of rules and protocols, including the player movement restriction inside the bubble.

A memo was sent to all the players detailing the various procedures to be implemented during the course of the tournament.

This will include mandatory RT-PCR swab tests and Standard Q Covid-19 Ag (Antigen) test with the PGTI to cover only one test per tournament.

Players’ temperature will be checked daily and the participants will be required to fill out a health questionnaire that would include the RT-PCR results and Standard Q Covid-19 Ag (Antigen), which will be submitted to the GAB.

In addition, Bayleaf Hotel in Cavite has been tapped as the official hotel during the bubble.

Registration is ongoing and the deadline for the listup will be on November 10 with PGTI expecting around 78 players in total.

The health and safety guidelines, including during the tournament proper, are all detailed in the PGTI Standard and Procedures at www.pgt.ph.
