PFL to kickstart its 2020 season on Oct. 24 with bubble setup

Two weeks from now, the Philippines Football League (PFL) sponsored by Qatar Airways is set to commence its 2020 season with a bubble setup.

However, the league’s expected October 24 season kickoff at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite is still subject to approval by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

Just like the Philippine Basketball Association’s 2020 Philippine Cup in Clark and Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3’s 2020 Presidents Cup in Calamba, the PFL shall follow a similar full bubble setup.

The PFL’s bubble version will shelter its teams and match officials at the Seda Nuvali hotel in Santa Rosa, Laguna, for the entire season.

Every personnel is expected to fully comply with the bubble’s regulations as they will only be allowed to leave Seda Hotel to train and compete in the PFF National Training Center.

PFL Commissioner Coco Torre is hands-on for the opening of the 2020 season, he recently met with the league’s clubs to discuss the fine details of this season’s competition.

Under the leadership of the commissioner, the league is now completing its rules and regulations that will be implemented for the season, which shall then be presented to the relevant government agencies such as the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) and the Department of Health (DOH).

Meanwhile, broadcasting deals are in the works to bring the games closer to local football fans.

Moreover, when it comes to the games’ format, each club will play five matches each in a single round-robin. The top four teams in the standings shall then face off in the Finals Series.

The first game day shall see the Azkals Development Team take on Mendiola FC at 4:30 PM while Stallion Laguna and Kaya FC-Iloilo will compete afterward at 8:30 PM.

The next day, Maharlika Manila FC will go against United City FC at 5:00 PM.
