PERPETUAL HELP’S BENCH MOB BURIES JRU FOR BOUNCE BACK WIN

19 October 2025

PERPETUAL Help needed all hands on deck for the Altas to recover from their loss to Letran on Wednesday in the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament.
That was exactly what coach Olsen Racela’s wards did in the Altas’ 71-65 win over Jose Rizal University at San Juan Arena on Saturday.
John Abis’ season-high of 17 points with seven rebounds to go along with it may have headlined the Altas’ dub but it was the bench that kept the momentum going even when the starters took their breathers.
“Coming into the season, alam naman namin na medyo dehado kami when it comes to personnel but I just have to commend my second group,” Racela said after pacing Perpetual Help to a 5-1 record in Group A.
“I was really on them yesterday in practice. I told them how crucial they’d be for us this season and it really showed in this game.”
In the Perps’ 63-56 loss to Letran a few days back, their first loss of the season no less, Racela’s second unit combined for just 10 measly points.
This time, the Altas’ second-stringers proved their mettle against the Heavy Bombers with 30 bench points.
JP Boral got the backups going with an all-around game of nine points, three rebounds and two assists, all while playing just 19 minutes of action.
JRU turned to Sean Salvador once more but his performance to the tune of 18 points, five rebounds and four assists was not up to par as the Heavy Bombers slid to a 3-3 record in Group B.
