MATTHEW AQUINO MAKES IMPRESSIVE JAPAN DEBUT

Matthew Aquino made an impressive Japan debut as the Shinshu Brave Warriors overpowered Bambitious Nara, 93-52, to advance to the fourth round of the 2021 Emperor’s Cup on Saturday at Kishiwada City Gymnasium.

Aquino, who is of Japanese descent, came off the bench for the Brave Warriors and built up nine points, two rebounds, and one block in more than seven minutes of action.

The 6-foot-8 Filipino center, however, is yet to play for the B1 side in the B.League.

Josh Hawkins led the campaign with 23 points, 13 boards, and three assists, while  Yuta Osaki also poured 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists for the team.

Korean import Yang Jae-min also made his presence felt during the winning match as he poured out 16 points, seven rebounds, and a steal.  

The action continued on Sunday as Shinshu arranged a collision course against the Bobby Ray Parks-led Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, which beat Earthfriends Tokyo Z, 93-58.
