LANGBAYAN TOPS COMPATRIOT DEL ROSARIO, SEIZES BRONZE IN JIU JITSU FIGHTING CLASS

11 December 2025

BANGKOK — Godwin Langbayan topped Rajae Dwight Del Rosario, 21-16, in all-Filipino match to claim a bronze medal at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games jiu jitsu men’s -62kg fighting class at the Ronnaphakat Building in the Navaminda Kasatriyadhiraj Royal Thai Air Force Academy on Wednesday.

Langbayan gave the Philippines its first medal in jiu jitsu after a long day that saw his teammates failing to advance to medal matches in both men and women’s sides as well as in the duo classic competition.

The 36-year-old Langbayan also grabbed his second SEA Games’ medal following his bronze in kun bokator in the previous SEA Games edition in Cambodia back in 2023.

Langbayan said he and Del Rosario didn’t hold back in their match despite being teammates.

“Against sa teammate natin, wala pa ring bigayan kasi nag-iisang medal lang ‘yung kukunin natin so best of the best na lang ‘yung ginawa namin,” said Langbayan.

Langbayan dropped his first match against Vietnamese Le Kien, 14-14, losing the bout after a penalty for an uncontrolled punch in the endgame, but recovered and won via ippon against Laos’ Khamkeo Vilayphone.

Thais Suwijak Kuntong and Naphat Mathupan snared the gold and silver medals, respectively, while Vietnamese Dao Hong Son bagged the other bronze.
