According to The Varsitarian, the younger brother of national team stalwarts Juan and Javi, has rerouted from Diliman to España to take the next step in his budding basketball career.

“Jordi Gomez de Liaño has committed to UST, a source tells the Varsitarian. De Liaño averaged 13 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game for the University of the Philippines Integrated School in UAAP Season 82,” said the report.

The local high school hoops standout’s arrival was considered to be a timely shot in the Tigers who are on a rebuilding phase following the fallout of the Sorsogon fiasco that saw the departure of head coach Aldin Ayo and several key players.

Jordi had a solid personal campaign for the UPIS in the past UAAP Season 82 boys’ basketball competitions as the Junior Maroons stumbled to a 1-13 win-loss record.

Gomez de Liaño was also part of the Gilas Pilipinas youth pool that was supposed to play in the 2019 Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship in Beirut, Lebanon but was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reigning MVP Soulemane Chabi Yo will still banner the Growling Tigers’ campaign alongside holdovers Sherwin Concepcion and Dave Ando.

De Liaño will join incoming rookies Rom Junsay from Arellano, Johnsherick Estrada from St. Clare College of Caloocan, and Nikko Panganiban from Our Lady of Fatima University.
