IVAN OUANO SCORES TWO GOALS FOR PH AZKALS TO SALVAGE DRAW AGAINST TIMOR LESTE
Ivan Ouano scored two goals to salvage a 2-2 draw for the Philippine Azkals against Timor-Leste to begin its campaign in the ASEAN Football Federation Championship U23 opening game on Monday.
Striker Quano made the brace off a sliding left foot goal in the 45th minute and from a corner play in the 62nd minute.
“The fact that we went 1-0 down and 2-1 down, I think we showed great character to come back both times and get the draw,” Azkals head coach Stewart Hall said during the post-match press conference.
The Timorese squad opened the match aggressively after scoring in the seventh minute capped by midfielder Mouzinho Barreto de Lima converting the penalty kick off a Philippine foul in the box.
Azkals Development Team forward Ouano drilled in his first goal for the Philippines past Timor Leste goalie Junildo Pereira to equalize in the 45th minute.
Come the second half, defender Jaimito Soares was able to find a way to score past goalie Quinci Kammeraad which put them at an advantage, 2-1.
The National University product again came to the rescue, scoring another goal for the Filipinos at the 62nd minute.
With the draw, both the Philippines and Timor Leste received a point each in the Group A table.
The Philippines is scheduled to face host Cambodia on Thursday, Feb. 17 at the same venue.
