HIDILYN Diaz quite literally flattened the field with a sterling performance, winning not one, not two, but three gold medals including what is considered an elusive gold as she ruled the World Weightlifting Championship gold in Bogota, Colombia.

That diadem finally fell into her hands as she ruled the women’s 55-kilogram division on Thursday (Manila time).

A member of the Air Force Special Service Group who delivered the country’s first Olympic gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Diaz tallied a total lift of 207kg in besting Rosalba Morales of Colombia and Ana Gabriela Lopez of Mexico, en route to winning all three gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total.

She lifted 93 kg in the snatch to win her first gold in the world championship and booked 114 kg to also lord it over in the clean and jerk.

As such, the 31-year-old weightlifting phenom finally captured the missing World Championship gold to her collection spiked with gold medals from the 2020 Olympics that was played last year due to the Covid pandemic, Asian Games, and the Southeast Asian Games.

In the previous editions of the WWC, Diaz could only settle for bronze in the women’s 53kg in 2015 and 2017 and in the women’s 55kg in 2021.

She skipped WWC in Tashkent last year.
