FILIPINO-JAPANESE JUNNA TSUKII EXITS DUBAI WORLD CHAMPS
The Karate player Junni Tsukii will go home empty-handed after suffering an early exit in the 2021 WKF Senior World Championship in Dubai.
The 30-year-old Tsukii lost against Uzbekistan’s Bakhriniso Babaeva in the second round, 2-3 in the female Kumite -50 kg category last Wednesday.
Then the following round, Babaeva was defeated by Algerian Cylia Ouikene.
Also, the Philippines’ pride did not qualify for the repechage round, which would have given her a chance to finish on the podium.
Nevertheless, Tsukii performed well during the opening of the event scoring a majority decision win against Sara Radicevska of North Macedonia.
Still, the country has left some hope for a medal as Filipina Jamie Lim, who won gold in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, will have to settle for bronze in the -61kg repechage round.
