The Australian Open Girls’ Doubles win was the maiden Grand Slam feat for both Eala, 16, and Nugroho, 18.

In the finals match held in Melbourne, Eala, Juniors World no. 3, and Nugroho, Juniors World no. 18, dominantly toppled Great Britain’s Matilda Mutavdzic and Ziva Falkner of Slovenia, 6-2, 6-1.

This would be the second Grand Slam Juniors event that Eala and Nugroho are teaming up.

The iconic duo is seeded third in the tournament and is up against Japan’s Erika Matsuda and United States’ Valencia Xu in the opening round late Tuesday, July 6.

The 16-year-old Eala is hoping to win her third doubles Grand Slam after capturing the 2021 French Open last month with Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva while the 17-year-old Nugroho is hoping to clinch her second.

Both Eala and Nugroho celebrated with a debut win in the Wimbledon singles opening round after taking down Argentina’s Solana Sierra, 6-2, 6-4, and Czech Republic’s Lucie Havlickova, 6-3, 6-2, respectively.

Eala will match up against Ane Mintegi Del Olmo on Wednesday while Nugroho will take on Italy’s Matilde Paoletti both in the second round of the singles event.
