DWIGHT RAMOS JOINS GILAS POOL IN CALAMBUBBLE; NAT’L TEAM AWAITS KAI SOTTO’S ARRIVAL
Gilas' pool of players is nearly complete as Dwight Ramos arrived in the training bubble at Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna on Sunday after clearing his quarantine duties after returning from the United States.
Ramos is the latest member to join the national team pool after undergoing a 14-day mandatory quarantine and tested negative on his RT-PCR Test following his return from California on January 12.
During the second window of the FIBA qualifiers, Ramos emerged as a breakout star after his first match performance against the Thais, logging in 20 points in a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the field.
The 6-foot-4 Fil-Am was considered as one of the integral contributors of the team averaging 12.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in their three games in the Asia Cup Qualifiers.
The Ateneo standout was the second to the last who is expected to arrive in Laguna as Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas patiently awaits Kai Sotto to set foot on the training bubble.
“We’re just waiting for the finality of the logistical requirements for him to be able to arrive in [the Philippines],” said Ryan Gregorio on Power and Play last Saturday.
A total of 20 players will comprise the Gilas pool with a mix of PBA stars and collegiate standouts.
Ramos will be joining his fellow cadets Juan and Javi Gomez de Liaño, Dave Ildefonso, Justine Baltazar, Calvin Oftana, William Navarro, Kemark Cariño and naturalized player candidate Angelo Kouame.
Also inside the Calambubble are pros Kiefer Ravena, RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario, CJ Perez, Justine Chua, and newcomer Raul Soyud.
Moreover, the pool is composed of PBA special draftees namely Isaac Go, brothers Matt and Mike Nieto, and Rey Suerte.
Gilas officially started their training last Friday supervised by decorated coaches Jong Uichico, Norman Black, Caloy Garcia, Sandy Arespacocahaga, and Gilas program director Tab Baldwin.
The national team is preparing for their campaign in the last window of the FIBA qualifiers in Clark, Pampanga battling against South Korea on February 18 and 22, and Indonesia on the 20th.
