The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced on Monday the resignation of Baldwin with Reyes taking over on Tuesday.

“The national federation would also like to ask our countrymen to support Coach Chot Reyes, as we prepare to bring basketball’s biggest stage to our home court,” the SBP said.

However, with such sudden events, Reyes said that it would be a hard plan to train and restructure the team again especially since several players left to play in international leagues.

“While I know how difficult and oftentimes thankless this job can be, in the end, I cannot turn down a chance to serve my country. The task at hand is daunting, that’s why we ask for everyone’s prayers and support as we give it our all,” Reyes shared.

But Reyes is still optimistic saying that “I have a wish list,” that he eyes for what his Gilas players would be composed of. 

“It is a big challenge, pero hindi ko matatalikuran ang tawag ng bayan. It will be an honor to serve the country again,” Reyes said.
