Yulo garnered a total of 83.398 points across six disciplines, however, he tied for the third with three-time world champion Kenzo Shirai.

While the triumph was taken by  Tokyo Olympian and former world champion Kazuma Kaya tallying a total of 86.998 points, and followed by star-gymnast Wataru Tanigawa with 85.965 points.

The 2020 All-Japan Senior Championships was Yulo’s first tourney since last year.

“There will be another all-around competition that Caloy will join on December 13 and hopefully he will do much better,” said Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion.

The starting point for Yulo was not as good as he blundered in his forte event— floor exercise. He garnered only 13.466 points.

It was then followed by his pommel horse performance with a 12.900 score.

Despite a shaky start, the Malate-born talent maintained his composure and pulled off a thrilling stunt in the still ring event, where he received 14.100 points.

He also managed to finish the tournament and contend with 14.066 points in the parallel bars and 13.633 in the horizontal bar event.

Yulo’s Asahi Mutual Life took the fifth position overall in the team rankings.

As of now, this talented young man is under the supervision of gymnastics mentor Munehiro Kugemiya.

Yulo added the list of Filipinos who have secured berths to Tokyo together with pole-vaulter EJ Obiena, boxers Eumir Felix Marcial, and Irish Magno.
