ALEX EALA LEAPS 53 PLACES FURTHER IN WTA SINGLES RANKINGS
Filipino tennis wunderkind Alex Eala saw her ranking in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) reach a new career-high, landing in No. 662, 53 places further after a notable stint in the recent W60 tournament in Bellinzona, Switzerland.
The 15-year-old netter is now ranked in 662nd place from 715 in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday and is just a couple of months removed from breaking into the top 1000.
The youngster from Quezon City was racked up with a hectic 2021 which saw her trailed with already nine pro tournaments including the $60,000 tournament in Switzerland last week where she impressed with a third-round with Simona Waltert.
Eala began the year at no. 1,190 but as early as February, Eala broke the WTA 1000 rankings after her impressive performance in her first maiden pro title in the first leg of the W15 Manacor last January.
Then, Eala is now looking forward to cracking the top 500.
Furthermore, the Filipina tennis sensation is to climb even further for more than 200 places, according to an Instagram post by the Rafa Nadal Academy.
Eala’s stint in these high-level tournaments was granted to her when she became a part of the International Tennis Federation’s Junior Exempt Program, where the top elite players are given a limited number of professional competitions.
And, since Eala capped off 2020 as ranked no. 3 in the juniors rankings, she was handed three $25,000s, two $60,000s, and several $15,000s.
The young netter still has the chance to compete in one W60 and W25 series left in her slate.
